Connecting Craft and System

About Apotropaeon

From Banking Systems to Global Craft

Apotropaeon unites complex digital infrastructure with timeless Indonesian craftsmanship, forming the systemic platform necessary to bridge the gap between local artisans and the global market. Our mission is to provide these exceptional artisans, starting in Indonesia and expanding across Asia, with transparent, efficient access to international trade.

The Meaning Behind the Name

The name Apotropaeon comes from the ancient Greek word apotropaios — that which wards off harm and protects what is valuable. Throughout history, gemstone jewellery has been worn across various cultures specifically for this protective purpose. While each culture holds its own unique traditions, this practice remains deeply rooted and vibrantly alive in Indonesia. It is this very spirit that drives every piece we bring to the global market: jewellery crafted with intention, sourced with integrity, and presented with clarity.

Meet the Team

Founder & CEO

Pascal Wels

Pascal's career is defined by connecting systems and people. With a background in the banking sector, he led complex transformations, such as the transition from client-based software to modern internet banking and the integration of back-office systems with CRM infrastructures. Following this period, as a sales professional for fibre optic solutions, he gained deep knowledge of B2B market access and commercial connectivity.

Driven by his Indonesian roots, Pascal has always held a deep admiration for the design and refined culture of the archipelago. Seeing how the local market limited the growth of talented goldsmiths and gemstone specialists, he recognised this as a systemic problem he could solve.

Co-Founder & CTO

Edin Hendo

With a background spanning UX/UI design, frontend development, and digital communications, he leads the Apotropaeon technology and digital presence, building the infrastructure that connects heritage craft to a global audience.

The architect behind Apotropaeon's digital platform, Edin brings deep expertise in product development, UX design, and information architecture to translate the complexity of international trade, including compliance data, logistics flows, and product specifications, into interfaces that are intuitive and transparent for partners on both sides of the supply chain. His work ensures that the bridge connecting Indonesian artisans to the global market is not just functional but genuinely elegant.

"I saw craftsmanship that the world deserved to see, but it lacked the necessary infrastructure. Apotropaeon is the answer: a platform that bridges the gap between the atelier and the international market."

The Platform

Our Architecture

Apotropaeon is more than an online shop; it is an operational backbone that provides the complete infrastructure for international trade.

Product Data Standardisation

A framework with over 100 data fields per product for full traceability and specifications.

Regulatory Compliance

We act as Importer of Record (EORI-registered) and handle full import dossiers, HS classifications, and customs documentation.

Quality & Certification

Physical inspection in the Netherlands and official hallmarking via Waarborg Holland for the EU market.

Optimised Logistics

A closed chain with partners like DHL and Malca-Amit for the secure transport of valuables.

Our Vision

A Scalable Model for Asia

Indonesia is our starting point, and it is where our focus remains today. The infrastructure we are building with product data standards, compliance frameworks, and logistics partnerships is designed from the ground up to be replicable. When the moment is right, the same model scales to Jaipur, Chiang Mai, and beyond.  For now, we are building it right.
